WJR carefully selects horses for each summer. Most horses are privately owned and generously loaned to us. Many horses return year after year. This speaks to the level of care the horses are given, not to mention the love and adoration of the children.

The horses are varying breeds, sizes, and ages: tiny ponies through Thoroughbreds, the average age is 14, and the average size is 14.3 hands. Hafflingers, Quarter Horses, and Paints are the most common breeds.
WJR owns 4 horses. They are a part of the Woodside Junior Riders “family”. During the 9 months that WJR is not in session, they are placed with a family. This is a unique opportunity to experience horse ownership from September through June 1st with guidance and assistance from WJR. This is extremely popular and homes are chosen on suitability for the horse with the family. There is a long wait list for this as we only have a few horses available. Successful family matches often continue with the same horse for several seasons. Matches are made solely on compatibility, not riding ability or seniority. This ensures a solid loving home for the horse, and real growth for the child and family into becoming life long equestrians.
